Got a Thomson LCD TV that suddenly won’t turn on? In this article, a forum user walks through the steps they took to diagnose the issue and attempt a repair. If you're into DIY and want to troubleshoot your TV before calling for help, this guide might be just what you need!
Appliance:
Thomson LCD TV
Issue:
The TV won't start and only the red LED remains on.
Repair:
Upon opening the TV, I found the secondary capacitors were swollen—rated at 25V 470μF. I replaced them with 35V 470μF capacitors, and the TV started working again.
The replaced capacitors were the ones marked in red. There were four of them, and I replaced them all. It's good practice to replace all capacitors, even if they aren't visibly damaged, to prevent the same issue from recurring shortly after.
