SAFETY NOTICE
When undertaking any work, always use the necessary precautions to work safely... here are some tips:
- Always use the appropriate protective gear for the work you are doing or the tool you are using (gloves, safety glasses, coats, helmets, etc.).
- Before using a tool that you are not fully familiar with, read the instructions and safety notes carefully. If you don't have the instruction leaflet, have someone who knows the tool well explain it to you.
- Never use a tool for a purpose other than that for which it was designed.
- Never underestimate the danger of the tools you are using or the work you are doing. Sometimes a moment's distraction is enough to get hurt.
- Always carefully assess your experience; do not attempt to perform tasks that are beyond your capabilities. For the first few times with unfamiliar activities, have an experienced person accompany you to help.
Safety Notes on Electrical Work
When dealing with electricity, it is always wise to exercise great caution. Therefore, when working on parts of an electrical system, there are some fundamental things to keep in mind:
- Always turn off the main switch before working on any part of the system or unplug electrical equipment before dismantling it. Touching live electrical wires can cause electric shock and can be fatal.
- Do not use electrical appliances connected to the mains near water, with wet hands, or if the floor is flooded.
- Always be very careful when securing the wires of a system and avoid loose wires or those held with adhesive tape. A short circuit can cause the wires to overheat and start a fire.
So: NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE DANGER OF ELECTRICITY! NEVER ACT CARELESSLY WHEN PERFORMING OPERATIONS ON AN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM OR APPLIANCES!
Safety Notes on Appliance Repairs
Even for appliance repair, great caution must be exercised, particularly:
- Always unplug before opening any appliance.
- Always be careful, as some components retain an electrical charge (sometimes even a high one) even when unplugged. Some of these components are found, for example, in microwave ovens and old cathode ray tube televisions. Always read the safety notes in the appliance instructions before opening it.
- If you need to make measurements or tests under power, connect the wires before plugging in and then keep a safe distance.
- Perform measurements with a tester only if you are experienced in how to use it safely and only using the appropriate insulated probes. If you do not have the necessary experience, do not do it.
- Pay extreme attention to appliances that use laser light emissions; even low-intensity light can cause permanent damage to eyesight. If you are unsure whether the appliance uses this technology, read the safety notes in the appliance instructions before opening it.
Safety Notes on Plumbing Work
When working on parts of a plumbing system, there are some fundamental things to keep in mind:
- Always turn off the main water valve before performing any intervention.
- Do not use electrical appliances connected to the mains near water, with wet hands, or if the floor is flooded.
