Got an old wooden pallet lying around? Why not turn it into something useful? In this guide, we show you step-by-step how to build a stylish and functional TV stand using a recycled pallet. It’s an easy and affordable DIY project, perfect for fans of upcycling and rustic industrial design. Just add a few wheels and some finishing touches, and your pallet becomes a unique piece of furniture.
Introduction
In this article, I’d like to showcase a project created, described, and photographed by themago, who managed to transform a wooden pallet into a practical and convenient TV stand for a hobby room.
There are two praises to give to themago for this idea. Firstly, for the end result, which is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing (even if it might not pair well with a Louis XV-style living room). Secondly, for the use of recycled materials—achieving cost savings while also reducing environmental impact.

The materials used
Let's start from the beginning... A pallet is nothing more than a raised wooden base used to hold packaged goods. Its dual purpose is to keep goods elevated off the ground and allow them to be lifted and transported using forklifts. These forklifts, with their mechanical arms that fit into the lower slots, are able to lift the load placed on the pallet and carry it over short distances.
In the diagram prepared by themago (next to the text), one of these pallets is illustrated, showing where it needs to be cut and where the wheels should be placed to enable movement.

Wheel Assembly
The wheels used are "free-swivelling," meaning they can rotate to allow movement in any direction. This type of wheel (visible in the photo of themago's project) can be easily purchased from well-stocked hardware stores and is available in various sizes.
To attach the wheels to the pallet, four wood screws for each wheel will suffice.
The only precaution to take when selecting the wheels is their load capacity. In this case, as the setup includes a 32" TV, a VCR, and other items, the estimated weight was calculated with a safety margin at around 100 kg. Divided across six wheels, this means each wheel should support approximately 16–17 kg.
When purchasing the wheels, ensure that the maximum load capacity specified is not less than this calculated weight.

Painting
The pallet can then be painted in a colour that best matches your decor. Keep in mind that the wood used for these pallets is rather rough, so if you want smoother surfaces, you’ll need to sand them first. Dark and matte colours tend to suit this type of wood best.

And here’s the finished result.
Simple, affordable, and functional.

Thank you!
