Looking to add a modern, minimalist touch to your home? Installing shelves with concealed brackets is the perfect way to achieve a "floating" effect without visible supports. In this guide, we'll walk you through the step-by-step process of installing them correctly, with practical tips and useful suggestions for a professional result—even if you're a beginner.

Hoping This Might Help Others: How I Install Invisible Shelf Brackets

Here’s how I usually install invisible shelf brackets, hoping it might come in handy for others.
In this case, I built a small bookshelf for my daughter using leftover Tanganika walnut veneer panels from another project, assembled as usual with dowels and glue.
To start, I drilled holes into the sides of the bookshelf.

Installing the First Bracket

To install the first invisible shelf bracket, I marked the first hole on the wall in the top left corner. After drilling the hole, I screwed in the peg of the bracket, as shown in the photo.

Installing the Remaining Brackets

To accurately mark the second hole, I used a hole marker taken from a kit designed for wooden dowel joints.

I use a hole marker to mark the position of the next pieces.

Marking the Second Hole

At this stage, insert the shelf into the first bracket. Once the spirit level shows it's perfectly level, give a light tap where the other hole aligns to precisely mark the position for the second invisible shelf bracket.

The hole marker will mark the exact position of the second dowel hole.

Final Installation of the Shelf with Invisible Brackets

Once the second bracket is screwed in, simply slide the shelf onto the brackets, and the job is complete.
If any misalignments occur, they can be adjusted with gentle taps of a hammer on the peg of the bracket.

What Are Hole Markers

For those unfamiliar, hole markers are commonly sold tools used to mark and align holes for wooden dowel joints. They ensure precision when connecting pieces of wood using dowels.
